Ridge Clean Energy (RCE) is proud to have supported a long-time Isle of Wight resident on his journey to becoming a qualified Retrofit Assessor. Working in partnership with Future Isle of Wight (FIOW), a community interest company focused on helping residents stay warm and save money and carbon by improving the energy efficiency of their homes, RCE co-funded Jan’s training to help him transition into a vital role in the green economy.
RCE’s mission is to generate clean energy while supporting community well-being and environmental resilience. Each of their projects is progressed to deliver both renewable energy and community value. Dedicated Community Partnership Coordinators work directly with organisations, groups and residents to identify and support initiatives aligned with local needs and the transition to Net Zero.

Retrofit Assessment is a growing profession that plays a key role in tackling the climate crisis by evaluating the energy performance of existing homes and recommending improvements to make them warmer, more efficient, and environmentally friendly.
Jan successfully completed his training to become a retrofit assessor over two years, alongside his full-time work as a vehicle technician. He is now working with households across the Isle of Wight to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
“I find the job very rewarding,” says Jan. “It gives me a sense of fulfilment every time I help a resident lower their energy bills. At the same time, they’re reducing their carbon footprint and helping the environment too.”
His top energy-saving tip? “Switching to LED bulbs: it’s quick, affordable, and makes a big difference,” observes Jan.
Originally from the Philippines, Jan has lived on the Isle of Wight since 2005. His new role offers him the flexibility to spend more time with his family and to enjoy the island’s natural beauty.
This initiative, supported through our partnership with FIOW, reflects our commitment to empowering local communities near our renewable energy sites and contributing to a just transition to net zero. We’re proud to have played a part in Jan’s journey and look forward to seeing the continued positive impact of his work.
