Frequently asked questions
Are your surveys free?
We’re happy to arrange free home visits (schedule permitting) to give general advice and address any concerns. If Future Isle of Wight is helping you secure a grant, we’ll oversee the process, including any inspections and surveys that need to be carried out.
For standalone surveys and official certificates such as EPCs and commercial inspections, please get in touch.
How do I know if I have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)?
EPCs are needed when a house is sold or undergoes major renovations. They’ve been around since 2007 and each one lasts for ten years before expiry. That means if you have lived in your home a long time, you might not have one. To check, you can go to the government website and search for your property.
I’m eligible for a grant. Do I need a survey before having the work done?
Yes. Even if you have an EPC, you’ll still need a home survey to get a grant and have the work carried out by a contractor.
What happens during a home survey?
An experienced retrofit assessor will carefully consider the most effective improvements needed to cut your fuel bills and carbon emissions. They’ll also take into account things like ventilation, and ensure that any proposed upgrades are a good fit for your home.
The surveyor will take a detailed look at your entire property, so they’ll require access to places like the loft. You should also be aware that they will need to take photos of various parts of your home to share with the contractor doing the work. During their visit, the surveyor will talk you through the process and explain what needs to be photographed and why.
I need a survey but I’m worried about moving the things in my loft. What should I do?
In the majority of cases, the surveyor will simply open your loft hatch and take a very quick look at the type (and amount) of insulation in your loft space. We won’t need you to move anything unless access is particularly difficult.
Do you survey charity and community buildings?
Of course! Our experts have plenty of experience with buildings of all shapes and sizes —even listed properties and commercial premises. Please get in touch, we’d be happy to help.
How does your energy monitoring survey work?
We can install electricity monitoring equipment to evaluate domestic or commercial energy use over a set period. Our service provides businesses and homeowners with detailed, accurate information about energy consumption patterns, enabling them to identify inefficiencies and make proactive adjustments.
